Central institution
"central institution” means an educational establishment for the provision of further education recognised as a central institution by regulations made by the Secretary of State under .
"The Scottish Agricultural College (“the SAC”), the last remaining Central Institution, is being designated as a higher education institution by the Designation of Institutions of Higher Education (The Scottish Agricultural College) (Scotland) (No. 2) Order 2008. This designation comes into force on 1 June 2008 and accordingly, the recognition of the SAC as a central institution requires to be revoked. As there will be no remaining bodies which are recognised as Central Institutions in Scotland, the purpose of these Regulations is therefore to revoke the Central Institutions (Recognition) (Scotland) (No. 2) Regulations 1990 which recognised the SAC as a Central Institution."1
