Designated institution

FOIA Schedule I includes:
- 53 - (1) The governing body of—
- (d) a designated institution for the purposes of Part II of the Further and Higher Education Act 1992 as defined by section 72(3) of that Act, or
- (2) In sub-paragraph (1)—
- (a) “governing body” is to be interpreted in accordance with subsection (1) of section 90 of the Further and Higher Education Act 1992 but without regard to subsection (2) of that section,
Section 72(3) of the 1992 Act says:
- In this Part of this Act “designated institution” means an institution in relation to which a designation made, or having effect as if made, under section 129 of that Act [the Education Reform Act 1988] has effect.
Designations under section 129 are made by SI. Designations include:
- SI 1989/282, amended by SI 1989/2055 and SI 1990/796
- Trinity University College (as Trinity College, Carmarthen, by SI 1992/2622 and again by SI 2007/2112)
- by SI 1993/404:
- Cranfield University (as Cranfield Institute of Technology)
- Royal College of Art
- Royal Agricultural College (by SI 2001/209)
- Conservatoire for Dance and Drama (by SI 2001/2268)
- Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (by SI 2006/1674)
- Guildhall School of Music and Drama (by SI 2006/1744)
